The Shangdong, China's first domestically built aircraft carrier, left Hong Kong today (July 7) after an enthusiastic, five-day visit, capturing the hearts and stirring the national pride of Hong Kong residents. The July 3 arrival of the warship, together with the destroyers Yan'an and Zhanjiang, and the frigate Yuncheng, marked the first Chinese carrier to sail into Hong Kong since 2017. The historic event coincided with the 28th anniversary of the Hong Kong SAR. Weekend tours of the fleet attracted 10 000 delighted visitors.
