Thousands hit the streets in Hong Kong Marathon

About 74,000 runners (including 13,000 overseas athletes from more than 50 countries and regions)competed in the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2019 on February 17. The full marathon, which kicked off in Tsim Sha Tsui on Kowloon side, traversed the long Tsing Ma Bridge and Western Harbour Crossing to finish at Victoria Park on Hong Kong Island. Two records were set. Kenyan Barnabas Kiptum won the Marathon Challenge, completing the race in 2:09:20, beating the previous record. The women's champion Volha Mazuronak of Belarus (2:26:13))also set a new record. The programme also included a half marathon, 10km run, family run, youth dash and wheelchair race. Designated a Gold Label Road Race by the International Association of Athletics Federations, the Hong Kong Marathon is the city's biggest public participation sports event.
