BUN FUN AT UNIQUE ISLAND FESTIVAL

Description
Thousands flocked to Cheung Chau to experience the unique Cheung Chau Bun Festival, an ancient thanksgiving ritual, enacted annually by the islanders. The festival's centrepiece comprised three giant towers completely studded with blessedly delicious buns, specially prepared for the occasion by the island's bakers. Taoist priests conducted rituals. The Piu Sik (Floating Colours) Parade, featuring kids dressed as deities and celebrities, seemingly floating in air was a highlight. The festival reached its zenith at midnight on May 23 in the Bun Scrambling Competition, in which individuals and teams scrambled up and grabbed as many buns as they could - the higher the grab, the luckier the snatch.
