Celebrating the birthdays of deities
Description
At this time of the year, the people of Tsing Yi put up a bamboo theatre, where Chinese operas are performed every day to celebrate the birthdays of Tin Hau (Goddess of the Sea) and Chun Kwan (a commoner honoured by a South Sung Dynasty's emperor for helping to fight pirates and worshipped as a deity posthumously). Around the theatre, hawkers sell traditional Hong Kong street food. People from all over the city flock to Tsing Yi to join the celebrations.
